Can you not access by proxy, or by your PC at home via logmein.com?

I would imagine it's not by chance, they will have been monitoring traffic and then drilled down to see sites accessed etc, then blocked them.

yes, never mind surfing you should be working! we "relax" the rules for 2 hrs over lunch, & between 5pm-9am, we do monitor the sites & if you saw how much time people spent on facebook etc but the way to get round it is to work in IT (& no, no-one is watching the watchers lol)

Hmm... makes no difference here. Actually, it's worse working in IS as they try out all the new draconian security policies on us first, before rolling them out to the rest of the company. Or not.

Thing is, can your monitoring systems tell the difference between someone that loads up Facebook in a browser at 09:00, only looks at it sometime during 12:00-14:00 and closes it at 17:00, and another that spends all day browsing the site and does no work? I bet both those situations just show 8 hours 'spent' on the site...

The internet teams have access to Facebook because we have a presence on there and they need to be able to monitor it. What, the whole dept?!

I'm sure the day will come when I try to log on here one morning and am greeted with "Access Denied"...

Yes, most static webpages, when you type in the URL, your PC will request the webpage. once its loaded in your browser, your PC won't make any more request over the network to it unless you click a link or refresh it. So they'll know you were on it for 7 hours if you keep refreshing it or moving around the site, they'll see all the requests going across the network for the individual pages (www.vectra-c.com and then www.vectra-c.com/forum etc etc)

Facebook is probably a bit difference since it has the chat option, I imagine it'll poll the server periodically. However they should be able to seperate polls to the chat server (always going to same address) from you looking at profiles/pages/photos etc each with their own URL. I doubt very much that IT would believe you though if you say you opened the page at 9am and left it open until 5pm everyday. lol

we just keep everything blocked, and unblock the sites that are needed. Reduces people playing on youtube and facebook, and gives me more bandwith to sit on here :-)

I wouldn't mind but this is on the computers in the break rooms etc... Our desk ones block everything obviously with it being a bank...

Typing this from work however, searched google for my user name and it found a thread and let me log in... Its blocked all our lovely motor pictures however, logo's and smilies etc... But i can still see the layout of the site and the text... So thats something i suppose (smilie face lol)

EDIT: just realised, its because its gone through www.insignia-owners.com - thanks for that admin
