whats the best way to prep the chrome v for painting?

If its pre facelift, I did mine but removed the whole V part , keyed with 800 paper then primed, painted, then laquered. Then bonded the V back onto the crosshatch grill.

use an etch primer before painting also

on my old grill i use 240 paper then smothed with 800 to give a really good key and remove the chrome surface. As Rich says, your best using an etch primer
