    Default Vectra Buying help

Im currently looking to buy a Vectra C ive been trying to get the money for ages now and hopefully should have some coming in now...

anyway ive been looking around and found a few i like.

there all 1.9 CDTI's (150) and ive budgeted to about £3500

05 silver hatch manual elite done 88k
05 black hatch manual elite done 107k

are the main two but ive also got my eye on

05 plate silver sri estate but its auto with triptronic done 103k

and lastly little bit over my budget but

06 plate black elite estate manual done 120k

my main question is when i goto view these cars is there anything i should be asking if it has been done ? or any issues i should be looking out for ?

    Thanks
    Ben

Make sure the flywheels been done on the diesels!

I didnt and 6months after buying it needs £800 spending on it!

Also i believe the 150s have other problems...swirl valve and inlet manifold but im sure somebody can help with that as i have the 120

What ever you do, check out the inlet manifold , check that the swirl valve linkage is in its rightful place, ie, not broken off. Theres loads of info on it on here. It would be great if you knew that it had been replaced i guess you'd never know though unless stated , There has been an updated/improved manifold produced but is only on 57plates onwards.. On Estates and Autos its fitted with a DPF, which if starts to fail a new one can cost up to £1200...(no need to worry about this if its a hatch)
if you can have a history check on the DMF and then EGR and Inlet the only other point will be injector wiring check if it is yellow and if it has been replaced with blue it is OK.
Also Timing Belt Vauxhall say 100k on 1.9 cdti but thats totally your choice if you want to run it till this without replacing it

I got a 150bhp estate in Jan this year and me hand has never been out of me pocket, If power is not as issue, buy a 120 bhp and steer clear of the estate as the bulk of my problems have been DPF related.

DPF'S can now be got for nearer £300, so dont let that put you off an estate, use it as a bargaing tool. Agree with comments that the 120's have less to go wrong with them engine wise, but they have the same issue on the flywheel failing, another bargaining tool.

Whats this flywheel fault anyway,,,,is it part of the clutch system??

Are there any signs/symptoms of them failing??

OMG bafoo, if its going you HEAR IT,,,,,its what the clutch is bolted too, syptoms are ,loud rattle with clutch up, dissapears when clutch dipped. Affects all diesels 120 and 150. They are a dual mass flywheel (DMF) and the centre section starts to seperate from the outer section, causing the rattle.

Buy a 120, nowhere near as many problems as a 150 and plenty quick enough to put a grin on your face when the turbo spools. Ask if the flywheel and timing belt and water pump has been done on either diesel but apart from that if you opt for a 120 thats about it, just common sense stuff like service history etc. If you opt for a 150 however its quite a list, Swirl Bars, Inlet manifold, EGR valve, DMF, all vectra's like to break springs and on either check the way the alternator belt comes off the alternator pulley, if its jerky and flapping it needs a new alternator pulley, tensioner and belt.
Hope I haven't put you off too much lol and most importantly enjoy what ever you buy

Thanks for the advice guys, i still haven't chosen my vec C ???

Thanks to you guys ive walked away from two lemons one with faulty DMF which the dealer tried to pass off as the heat shield rattling & the other was showing 77k but had sign's of more like 177k

Ive got two to view tomorrow, 04 plate 120 CDTI silver hatch and an 05 plate black hatch 150 CDTI ...... hope one of these is better than the others ive seen but these have both done just over the 100k mark
