    Default Service costs???

My wifes Insignia CDTI just flashed up asking for an oil change... phoned dealer and booked it in as it says it should be done within 300mile or 1 week.... asked the dealer how much and they said £176! Is this right? If thats an oil change how much for a service?

My wife just said if thats how much it costs she going to change it for something else....

Buy the oil and filter and do it yourself. You'll save yourself somewhere around £135 for a half hours work!!!!!

As long a genuine vauxhall parts are used there is nothing to stop you doing it yourself or getting a cheaper independant garage to do it!!

Got to the bottom of it now, well sort of....

When they change the oil they also do "interim service", one dealer told me this was basically oil change plus checking everything was ok (no filters), greasing things etc and another dealer told me they chaned pollen filters etc I had quotes of £168 and £176 for this "interim service"...

The first service (1st year) is an interim service, around £180
The next service (2nd year) is a major service, around £270
The next service (3nd year) is an interim service, around £180
The next service (4th year) is a major service (plus belts), £400+
The next service (3nd year) is an interim service, around £180

I would do these things myself but its still under warranty and that states it has to be done by a VAT registered garage. My own car goes to an indie who is VAT registered but dealer still played up when it came to doing warranty work and giving me a decnet trade in when i looked at changing a few months ago....

When we traded the Signum in for the wifes Insignia they also moaned about the fact the last service was done by an independant Vauxhall specialist and that it affected the trade in price which the Mrs wasnt happy about as i had told her not to go to dealer! `

In no way does it affect the resale but they use it as an exscuse anyway....

Thats about right for most places. if you think the likes of Ford, VW,BMW , Merc are any cheaper your very much mistaken.

I know the price doesnt seem that bad now.... its just originally my wife thought she was going to pay for an oil change and then pay for a service when that was due...... which is how it worked with mine when we first had it....

You have to have a service but if the oil degradation meter said it was ok they didnt change oil, but then 3 weeks later the oil change light would come on and back the car had to go for that too..

I have my 159 serviced by an independant and its still £190 (more than just oil change though)..... better than £490 which Alfa were going to charge though! £350 if it didnt need an oil change.....

Maverick: Have you got a local garage doing that for you? What about warranty etc
