Default Swimming lessons.....should stop during Ramadan

is it just me or has this country finally tipped over the edge and lost the plot???

Swimming lessons in some Staffordshire schools should stop during Ramadan to ensure Muslim pupils "do not swallow water", a council has suggested.

What about pushing them under so they breathe it in rather than drinking it?

I agree, we are forever hearing about brit's locked up for wearing shorts, kissing on beaches, drinking Beer in other countries so what does this tell us?

Do not get me wrong I have more friends of other religion and background than are British and they are as mystified as we are!!!!!!!

Why can't lessons go on as normal and just exclude those who this affects?

i think its taking things too far, just get on with it. How many would actually complain ? Swimming lessons for kids save lives, a sip of pool water wont do any harm. I have worked once in a location where employees went to pray (which involved washing hands and feet) then came back to tell you they were going for their break / dinner - obviously the prayers were on company time. Very annoying for those of us who had to work. When anyone gets special treatment it annoys others.

I still can't understand why they go to a pool to have a drink! It's not like they need to walk miles with a jug on their heads! I mean, who drinks pool water!

Despite being raised in South London (Brixton) I'm not a racist, but I do think PC's getting out of hand now, I would go with as quoted below.
    ------------------------------
"But Terry Sanderson, president of the National Secular Society said the guidance is out of proportion.

"Surely it should be possible for Muslim pupils to be withdrawn from those elements of the school day that they don't want to participate in without imposing these restrictions on everybody, Muslim or not.

"It is wrong that everyone in schools should be forced to observe Islamic laws when they may have no meaning for them.

"Rearranging the whole school routine for a whole month to satisfy the religious needs of a few is totally out of proportion."
