Hi folks, my no.2 injector has failed on my 1.9cdti so i'm looking to replace it myself. Do these need recoded or can i just swap it out?

Normally I would agree plasma but there's a little niggle in the back of my head that says they dont need to be coded. I used to work at mercedes who use a bosch injection system (same as vx) for theyre common rails and the injectors on those are supposed to be coded but I could fit an injector from one car into another and it would run perfect so I'm not sure if the ecu automatically codes the injectors or if they all run a standard code.

I know the 2.0 Dti injectors are not coded so can't see why the CDTI ones are

    Default

you can replace the injector and not program it - engine will work. Although if you want to be sure that all cylinders are working in balance I suggest you have the replaced injector programmed.

They will work without being programmed BUT wont be in perfect balance until the ECU has been programmed with the new 'flow rate' which varies from injector to injector

That is because they are 'dumb' injectors... They just pass whats been given to them they dont do any switching, its the fuel pump which does the hard graft of switching the fuel whereas with the cdti the injector is a 2 stage electronic device which actually controls the amount of fuel to inject...
