Default diagnosing faulty bosch vp44 pump

    Hi,

I've read a lot of different threads in the last week about problems with non-starting vectra c as my own 2002 vectra refuses to start. I've taken to 2 different mechanics who are both saying it's the bosch vp44 pump, but I'm not 100% confident with their diagnosis ... I think there just suggesting the obvious without investigating too much!!

Is there any sure way of diagnosing a faulty pump (without sending the pump away for testing) or is there any list of symptoms that a car experiences when the pump fails. The reason i'm so sceptical is that I rang a specialist who told me that 6/10 of every bosch vp44 pump he tests is OK..

Have the codes been read from the car?

On another note, what kind of fuel have you been using? Supermarket or Shell, BP etc.

local mechanic told me he put it on a diagnostics machine and it pointed towards pump... but he didnt give me the actual codes... Although the only accurate way of diagnosing this way is to have somebody who has the equipment to plug directly into the ecu on the pump and read any faults although not mant people have this equipment..

only had the car a week when this happened!!!! not sure wot type of fuel was being used before me..
