    Default Hesitation help

Hi I am new to the forum, I have a 54 plate SRi CDTI. When between 1800 and 2000 RPM I seem to have a slight hesitation, especially when in 3rd gear. Apart from this it runs very smoothly. It has been serviced recently. Someone mentioned that if I de-restrict the air box & put in a different panel filter it may get rid of this? Can anyone shed any light? Regards

is it just a lazy spot or a short on/off snap(blip) of power?

Best way to describe it is it feels like its about to cut out a bit jerky then as soon as in higher revs it goes.

This sounds like either 3rd injector issue or an EGR sticking, both of these can cause this jerkyness - and both are cheap to remedy (3rd injector loom = £13 and a can of carb cleaner to clean out the EGR).

plus give boost sensor a clean!

try new fuel filter along with some redex injector cleaner,
New air filter and do airbox mod

try a new airmass meter if all above fails

That is 150% your MAF. Unplug it and go for a drive, if your flat spot goes you know its the MAF. Which i can almost guarantee it is. Unless you have neglected to service the car in which case it could be a dirty fuel filter. but then your car would splutter throughout the rev range not just at 1800 rpm.

If it is the MAF how expensive is it to replace?

Between 70 and 100 quid depending on where you get it. They can sometimes be cleaned though with carb cleaner. when you get a chance unplug the MAF tomorrow and just take the car for a drive. If the hesitation goes you know its the MAF. Its free to do and wont harm the car. If it turns out to be the MAF report back and i will talk you through how to clean it. Be carefull though because if you use a cotton wool bud or touch the sensor with anything you could kill it completely. I just spray mine with carb cleaner then rinse it with warm water and let it dry. Then pop it back on.
You can find the MAF located on the tubing coming from the air filter box.
