Default A reason not to own a Scooby or the like!

We had an incident in work on Monday. Bearing in mind I work at a defence site with barbed wire fencing and CCTV etc, A member of staff chose to park his scooby outside the wire in an overflow car park. The main carpark is plenty big enough but involved a longer walk to the office.(all of about 2 minutes!)

Going home Monday night, as he approaches his car, two blokes in Black balaclavas jump out armed with some screwdrivers (I believe) and took his keys..and hence the car. The car was either stolen to order or planned for use in another job.

This kind of thing puts me off wanting to own "desirable" cars. It's one think to have joyriders take ya pride and joys for kicks, but to be confronted with this situation is just not work it.

Thatís the main reason I didnít progress looking at an evo8 a few months back. Mainly because of the odd story/statistic that MLC came out with and to hear something like this makes me glad I listened to what I was hearing.

Totally different league but even the guy I bought my Astra GSI off said he was followed home one night and thatís a 10 year old astra!

My main fear was if my wife was driving an Evo with Henry in the back and it got car jacked.

And not to add to the fear factor but donít rest easy in your vectraís either. I sold some alloys to a guy in Liverpool for his corsa. Two weeks later he was car jacked at a junction and the car found later missing it alloys.

Keep the doors locked, and ALWAYS leave enough space to the car in front so you can see their rear wheels over your bonnet. It means you will be able to pull out quickly if you need to.

I hate leaving the car out in public especially for a period of time. I regularly have to park up at the Airport for a week or so. I'll always try to find a spot at the end of a row, on the ferry bus route and covered by CCTV . I dread the day I come back to the car and....

My wife had someone try to get into the Vec one night when she was picking me up from work, she was very shaken and had the vec not had a door lock button it would have been a different story ... She now drives with the doors locked all the time ....

How does your insurance look at it if someone steals your keys at knifepoint, are you still covered ??

I would have thought any reputable insurance company would say "give them the keys" don,t try to be a hero. but then we are talking about insurance companies having to part with "our money". I tell my wife to drive with her doors licked, and if we are in a rough looking area I lock the doors any way to be on the safe side, sad that we have to take these precautions though.
