Motorway mpg

I know this has been discussed a gazillion times before but I am interested to see what other 1.9 CDTI (150bhp) drivers get on a good motorway run.

I dont get a lot of decent trips on motorways without roof boxes and bikes on the roof and apparently they reduce mpg slightly. At the weekend however myself and my son were in the car on a trip to Manchester from Glasgow and I checked my mpg.

Sitting at 70 - 80 (didnt seem to make much difference) with cruise on, the mpg was around the 49mpg mark.

Is this what other find?

I usually set my cruise at 70 on the clock (GPS has this at 65mph) and I can get 60-63 on a decent long run (80 miles+), or about 55-58 on a shorter one (40-80 miles).

I can get low 40's with my weekly commute and daily drive, 40% motorway, 60% urban.

lead foot larry here averages high 40s early 50s.
55-60+ on a long, relaxed, not-so-spirited drive.

I go to Luton and back around once a month, nearly door to door Motorway from here, cruise set around 70mph we get 50-60mpg, drop 10mph and it goes 55-65mpg/ Not sure around town but it's much better than the 2.2 petrol Omega was, even with my lead right foot.

mmmm. that is a lot higher than I get.

Is the M6 particularly hilly and you all drive downhill?

Wonder why I cant get mine over 50

Around town I get 40 but on a long run I seem stunted :P

on cruise @ 80 i get 56mpg

did that today on road trip to scotland!!

Just for comparison, my 2005 2.2 Petrol Auto does 42mpg at a steady 70-75 mph. I do a 400 mile round trip most weekends and it rarely falls below 40mpg (I think it was 38mpg during the harsh winter).
