    Default 2.2 DTi Cut Out

    Hi all,

While sitting in traffic today the engine coughed then cut out. Restarted fine and drove the following 6 miles home (mainly in stop/start 15MPH traffic queue) without incident.

Anything I should look for? No warning lights on dash at the time or since.

    Many thanks

    Adam

Only about a mile, but again traffic so it was up to temp, had been running for 10 minutes.

    Yeah many thanks.

I'm thinking it was just a glitch as I've driven into work this morning, and out to a customer site and back, and it's been fine so fingers crossed.

I can't rule out my foot slipping off the clutch slightly as I can't remember if it was in gear at the time, so that's also a possibility.

I've got that engine and once at speed it gave an almighty kick / mis-fire. Really took me by surpise and I thought "here we go" but hasn't done it since and nothing lit up. Maybe the same as yours but as I was moving it didn't stall?

I ignored it and it went away - cheapest fix yet

    Update:

I've had the same problem today, 3 times, only it doesn't cut out.

Each time it happened, I had been travelling and came upto a junction/queue and depressed the clutch to come to a stop. At the point the engine starts stuggling, then coming back up to normal idle, then dipping then coming back.

It's almost like hunting problem, but in the opposite direction!!

As soon as I press accelerator the revs go up as normal then it drives fine, and if I take my foot off the accelerator it drops to idle speed and stays there.

    Ideas??

On the front of the engine above the EGR valve their is a little flapp thing, with a white vacume hose attatched to it. next time you stop and the revs start hunting pop the bonnet and pull that vacume pipe off. Mine had the same problem after talking to a vaux tec guy he told me to try the above.

The vacume controlled the engine over run shut off flap thing next to the boost sensor. I was told that with age the spindle on the flap wears causing the above problem.

    Many thanks for the advice.

It's going into a garage next week under warranty so will inform them of advised possibilities.

Got a chance yesterday to check the above while the engine was doing this, popped the hose off at the vacuum pump as couldn't get under the plastic cover.

As soon as it popped off the engine settled, put it back on and the problem reappeared so I have found the problem, THANK YOU very much!!

Putting finger on the vacuum pump could feel it sucking so the pump is working, so must be the flap/spindle you mentioned is the problem.

Vacuum line is now disconnected to stop it happening, but at least I can take it to the garage on Tuesday and tell them what bit is broke!
