Default Clarkson Was Only Jokin Lads!

    BBC NEWS
    BBC backs 'provocative' Top Gear
Viewers who are offended by jokes on motoring show Top Gear must accept such remarks will remain "an integral part of the programme", the BBC has said.

The corporation has issued a statement on its complaints website after receiving 500 objections in six months.

"Provocative comments" by hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May must not be taken seriously, it said.

The BBC said the audience should be "familiar enough" with Top Gear's tone to be able to cope with the jibes.

Sarcasm was part of Top Gear's appeal, the statement stressed, and members of the public and participants were never immune "from the team's acerbic comments and observations".

Were the presenters' comments and pranks carried out with any degree of seriousness... we would of course take issue with them
    BBC statement
Last month, BBC governors rejected one viewer's objection to a **** salute by Clarkson on an edition broadcast last November.

They did admit there had been "a real potential to offend" but said most viewers would have known Clarkson often used "the most exaggerated stereotypes to support or defend his opinions".

They would not have taken his comments seriously for that reason, the governors added.

A BBC spokeswoman said there had also been "a number of calls" about a report on caravans broadcast on 16 July from "viewers who were taking issue with various aspects" of the feature.

The statement on the complaints website said Top Gear's format would not be changed.

But it reassured viewers that the corporation would continue to monitor the tone of the show.

"Were the presenters' comments and pranks carried out with any degree of seriousness, rather than being clearly tongue-in-cheek or adopting the deliberate overstatement that is the programme's trademark, we would of course take issue with them," it added.

    So till next week GOODNIGHT!

Ppl need to get out of the PC closet, it's a specialist program, for hard skinned car fanatics, just cos old Marg hit the wrong button on the remote looking for Song of Praise and heard C-son giving the hippie a bit of ****, shouldn't mean it's gotta get the best part of it taken out, if the hippie had worn some Reeboks instead, I'm sure he would have got the George Best routine rather than Jesus, and Marg would have been tittering away to herself remembering the old days of the 60's when she would have a cup of Ovaltine and go to bed imagining that her hubby Reginald was Georgie boy scoring one in her net.

He talks utter cr@p but I like him, he's not afraid to make a d0nger out of himself or have people take the p, so he can take it as well.

How about when he tested the Rover, he smoked a pipe & started talking really slow.

    Classic.

    Not to be taken seriously.

Complaining about a program is sooo sad. "I watched the whole program and didn't like it......" - - if you don't like it, or find it a little not your cup of tea - CHANGE THE FRICKIN' CHANNEL OVER. easy.

I love Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson's work. There is nobody on television remotely like him. Hats off to the man for not being afraid to say what he really thinks - more people should be like that. Good on the BBC as well for defending him.

I'd love to get inside the head of someone who takes deep offence at something that's said on Top Gear, and feels the need to write and moan about it. These people should lighten up and take the programme at face value. It's light entertainment - not **** propaganda.

The fact that Top Gear regularly draws in 6 million viewers every week is testament to its success. 500 complaints equals 0.008% of the viewing public. So what?
