Default How to get a new key....

    Hey all,

So i got the Vectra yesterday (pics are on there way) and am well please with it...

Even started the modding (insignia gets, new head unit, debadged etc..)

I do have an issue with the fact it only has one key. I had a quick google on it and found that i can order one from ebay for £45 plus P&P

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

This would be find except for the fgact i have no CarPass with the key number on it... So that will be another £20'ish for the stealers to order me one. (i do have the radio security code but not sure if this would help at all)..

Then i need to code it to the car. Now my car is a 2004. Does my Op-Com work to code key to this car (it worked when coding a key to my mates Astra) or is there some other way of doing it given the age of the car etc?

I am just trying to work out if a trip to the stealers to by the key, have it coded and get my car pass would be cheaper and easier than doing it the way i have preposed above...?

Thoughts and advice of anyone appreciated.

If I was you I would just let the dealer sort it out mate. Doing it the way you're on about can only end in tears at some point I reckon. At least it will be sorted swiftly, properly and if something does go wrong, then at least you have recourse to get them to sort it out. Yes it's not cheap, but neither is ending up screwing up your ECU if you get it wrong (which will be a damn site more expensive). Good luck

Buy the key from ebay, £45 is a great price and the dealers are very unlikely to be anywhere near that. If you bought the car from a dealers tell them you want the car pass FOC as its missing. If you have coded a key before and are comfortable doing it again then by all means go for it again you will save yourself money in the long run.

I coded mine myself with no issues at all.
