put 2.4 litres of oil in f40 gearbox and its worse!

hello guys i changed the gearbox oil today as i had 5 litres of castrol racing gear oil sittin unopened in the garage, so drained out the cherry red oil and put in 2.4 litres of the castrol oil, i then let the car warm up a bit and took it a drive and it has made it quite notchy from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, would the oil be too heavy or would i be better just putting in some more oil. i drove about 10 miles and at no point did the notchy thing go away.

any help please

the oil would be wrong .......! how old is it ? .....drop it out and put the proper stuff in .....before you damage it ....

the oil is new just fresh out of the 1 litre tubs. went and got some new oil there now and think i'll change it in the morning just in case. i think that the castrol gear oil is too heavy, i suppose it did say that it was to be used on cars with limited slip diffs.

What grade is the oil? If you're using Castrol, it should be their SMX-S stuff, 75W-85.

ok i got looked at one of the cartons and its castrol b373 FOR RACE USE ONLY stamped on the bottom, i should've known better

Ohhhhh i would'nt move it again until you've dropped that oil out lol.

For race use only? Just drive everywhere really fast and you'll be fine. Put a sign in your front windscreen that says "If this car goes below 80mph the gearbox will explode". Just watch out for Keanu Reeves trying to jump on board though...

ok so i dropped the oil out this morning and put in some gear oil i bought at the local petrol station which says its suits all modern gearboxes, granville stuff. the gearbox is a lot better but instead of having a little notch going from 1st to 2nd when cold its now 2nd to 3rd, funny thing is the harder you drive it the smoother the gear change, i think there is still probably some castrol gear oil still stuck in there. i put in about 2.8 litres of the new stuff.

i would advise you to go to vx and buy the correct oil and swop it back to that !
