    Default clio or octavia?

    Well guys im looking at getting a replacement car cause im fed up replacing parts on the vectra.

    im looking for something more fun but still practicable as i have a wee one.

    So my 2 choices are.

    02->05 Octavia RS 1.8T (90k miles £4k)
    03->05 Clio 172/182 (50k miles £4k)

    Both cars are 5k or under

    im hoping neither will be particularly bad on fuel as just now i average about 37mpg on the derv..

    any comments/suggestions?

    If your doing it to save money on repair bills dont buy the renault!

    The octavia is a great car although it wont give you the fuel economy of your diesel.

    the octavia has FULL service history and its red
    do you guys think it would be faster than the vectra(remapped) with the octavia remapped?

    Heres the thing! as long as you avoid the 1.9dci and 2.2dci engines, Renaults are actually not bad cars, early ones have erratic electrics BUT anything from 2005 onwards seem to be ok. I have recently sold my Vec 3.2 Elite to get a more economical car and currently have a 56plate Laguna 2.0dci 150, The interior is a little flimsy tbh but it does drive nicely and has most the kit my Vec had. Its no way as good as the Vec but it will do for me at the moment. Oh and it is quite noticably quicker than a Vec 1.9cdti 150

    why octavia Vs clio? Seems a very odd match to me. Totally different sizes. Better match would be fabia VRS Vs clio sport.

    I went from my vec to my vRS mate i love it ..

    mines yellow bought with 58k fssh for 4k so hunt about. mines had 2 belts and only 2 owners and its a 2002.

    Fairly quick car as standard i only have a panel filter for now i will be looking at adding a few toys and a rempa very soon after the hols out the way a stage one map will see you about 210 bhp so a 30 bhp hike for about 250-300( wait on a group buy will get one for around 200) lots of bits available for them as runs t on the mk4 golf platform. standard suspension is OK but not fantastic by any mean so does need sorted out but again nice and cheap to do. depending on the route you take.

    Interior is cracking IMO just keep it clean not as much room as the vectra but comfortable, The boot space is bigger than the vectra too. ideal for out with the kids and shopping etc..stacks of room.

    wheels are decent as standards too the dealer on your link has no clue their 17' not 18' so dont be fooled.

    I personally wouldnt go for the clio if you have a family tbh unless its a second car. the vRS is more than sufice. mine pulls really well..powers their when you need it..

    economy. my vectra 1.8 2005 on 20's was getting around 26/27 around town and abourt 31 on a run so wasnt great..
    VRS is getting 31/32 about the doors and 36+ on a run i seen 37.8 last week on a run to balloch just taking my time. great on fuel for what it is i think. clio wont see near that.

    hope this answers some of your questions..

    ps keep looking you will get a better one!

    EDIT : the standard sound system is gash. firt thing to do is remove the rear tweeters(disconnect them) this helps a little but idealy replace the speakers..

    also they have climate control which is great!
