Wasn't there a field remedy for the F40 to drain 0.8L of oil? That would be 2.4L then Better to doublecheck this though...

When I changed the oil on my old V6CDTi I put in 3L and it was a bit smoother when cold

autodata lists 4 manual gearboxes for the v6 if your not sure ring vx and give them the reg and they should be able to tell you which gearbox it has.

This would be the field remedy that corrects the poor lubrication on manufacture?
However, I don't remember any mention of change to the amount of oil required

It's a TIS Field Remedy - if the gearbox has 3.2 litres in it (which the first half of F40's did) and the customer complains of a crunch noise when changing from 1-2 (when cold) and 2-3 (when warm), then the remedy is to drain out all the oil and put 2.4 litres back in. The later F40s come from the factory with 2.4 litres.

There is another one for "clutch slipping" traced to incorrect lubrication during manufacture
Dealership applied that one when my clutch went earlier in the year
Not sure if that includes adjusting the gearbox oil level as well
