Default Total Vauxhall Magazine: Technical assistance required

    Afternoon folks

We're going to running a 'Buying and Tuning' guide based around the Signum 2.0T and given none of us have actually owned such a car, we need to hear from those of you who have had personal experience.

Obviously this doesn't just apply specifically to Signum 2.0T owners, so if you have a Vectra 2.0T we'd be equally delighted to hear from you and also on a much broader scale, we'd like to hear from any Vectra/Signum owner with regards to drivetrains, suspension, steering, interior wear, common issues and so on however we're too interested about the other engine types for now.

We need to know what to look out in the following catagories:

INTERIOR - Quality issues, what falls off/breaks, what is standard spec

EXTERIOR - Do they rust, what break, where are the problem areas

BRAKES - Sizes, performance, do they last, seize, squeak

ENGINE - reliability issues, performance, MPG, tuning potential

SUSPENSION - knocks, creaks, what wears out, recommended upgrades

GEARBOX - Does it whine with age, does it fall apart

Now that you guys have recovered from the shock that we're actually doing something with a Signum, we look forward to your help putting this feature together.

And we already have a car lined up to shoot (as in with a camera, not a large assault rifle) so we're good to go in that respect.

    Cheers

    Dave

I think generally they're a carbon copy of the Vectra mate - besides the obvious differences 90% of the parts are the same. It does generally tend to be better put together though, with more sound proofing and screws instead of clips etc...

On the plus side they're jsut as mod-able with regards to VXR and Irmscher parts (as your photoshoot car attests too ) so there are some pretty unique ones out there...

That's a valid point and the sort of thing we're after, are they actually a little more refined than a similary spec'd Vectra given they were intended at the slightly higher end of the market? We've got a reasonable amount of info having trolled the forums for the past couple of days, but nothing beats personal experience and having never owned a 2.0T... hence we're asking you guys.

    Cheers

Well my Vectra 2.0 T is a great car.

Interior - Centre arm rest fell apart the rest is all good.

EXTERIOR - No rust on my 2004 model, only thing to watch for it the front bumper gaps to the wing can be a bit iffy, tried to line mine up but no luck yet. I have seen a few members cars with the same issues.

BRAKES - Not sure on size, they do stop you very well been good for me apart from a squeak on the rear backing plate that stops the crap going onto the discs. Bends out the way easy enough and no more squeak .

ENGINE - Very reliable, good for tuning as I have a BSR ppc map on my 2.0 T. Few member have gone to stage 2 and stage 3. Stage 1 has my power at 205.4 Bhp and
    248 lbs/ft of torque

SUSPENSION - Prone to snapping the standard springs, I have upgraded mine and the suspension. Fitted Eibach springs to my Sri and Bilstein shocks. My set up is recomended

GEARBOX - Mine has been fine, bit stiff first thing but when warm it's spot on.

No problem. I should also say the engine is a bit like the z22se 2.2, Same top end as some 2.2 members have put the same head onto the 2.2 lump. Chain driven, ally engine like the 2.2. Chain does not need to be changed unless you hear it rattle

Turbodave - have a read of the 2.0T "spec sheet" here, it might give you some info:

All 2.0T's have 302mm diameter front disks, and 292mm rear disks (the rears are the same size as all the V6 models.

    Hi Dave,
and yep there fairly tunable ...to an extent if your happy with plug and play or custom maps.... once you start to change components then its more of a specialist area with the likes of BSR giving uprated injectors (fitted as standard on facelift models) and larger downpipes.... to allow the car to fuel and breath easier ...
i attempted a turbo transplant on my 2.0t fitting a turbo from a SAAB B207R engine (saab 9-3ss) which involved changing from the standard garrett to the Mitsubishi unit with the associated oil and water feeds...
the result was amazing with the amount of torque and boost produced being too much for the standard brakes (302mm) to stop in first and second gear with a remap in place ....so as the old girl was on 100k i decided to put her back to standard and put her out to pastures new....

so no i have a 2006 2.8v6 (same lump as the VXR) that was putting out 230 bhp standard but mapped (via bluefin) is somewhere in the region of 290bhp ... a real wolf in sheeps clothing that catches lots of people unaware ...which is what i really wanted ...why dont you come the rolling road meet in on the 24th ??? theres going to be at least 3 signums there and your welcome to have a nose around mine if you wish.....bulid quality wise ...yep i have to agree sound deadening is superb and you can easily hold a conversation at "high speed" without the need to raise your voice ..... my last one with excess 100k on the clock didnt even have any trim rattles or squeaks it was amazing ,there not everyones cup of tea and if you have owned one you will never forget it .. i'm now on my second and there a real conversation piece ..

i contacted Vauxhall on purchasing my 2.8 as i wondered how many had actually been sold in the uk since its producton and as they were only made in design (15mm lower and sports seats and 6 speed manual) or elite (full leather dual zone climate and auto) i didnt think there would be that many ...vauxhall being the stars that they re have provided me with the sales figures for all designs and elites with v6's including earlier 3.2 petrols and 3.0 diesels as below.

As requested, please the information you require below:

    2003
