Default Help this rattling is doing my tree in!!!

My vectra sri t100 has a right virtually constant rattle, its a metal sort of noise which is definitely coming from the rear wheels. thought it was suspension arm bushes so replaced them, which made no difference. then i found out that when i brake/handbrake while moving the noise stops. checked brake pads and copper slicked them up still no difference.
just wondering if any one has any ideas apart from driving it into a tree !!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the pad rattling in the caliper/carrier. Are the shims in place top and bottom? Are the pads a tight fit in the carrier?

dont think they had shims on. they were replaced before i bought the car. the pads were a tight fit in carrier though. can you buy shims from any motor parts place and how much do they cost??

checked shims they were on, so bought a new set of brake pads and noticed that they had a lil butterfly like spring on the piston side pad which holds the pad in the calliper properly. obviously mine hadn't got one on. smooth ride now!! buzzing
    cheers

No problem. Rattling brake pads can be a right irritating pain in the plums!

My vectra did exactly the same, the rattle was a loose pad. The spring had compressed too much and not 'sprung' back and it would always stop under braking. I had it off stretched the spring back and its nice a quiet now
