I'm hoping that this forum will prove as useful to me as it obviously has to so many others.
I am having intermittent problems when starting my car, the car will start but when I try to accelerate I have no power if I just sit and rev the engine it will be limited to 2K Revs, if I stop and start the engine a number of times eventually I'll get full power and be able to drive. When the car start OK I can drive it normally and have no noticeable problems.
Sometimes when I start the car it'll let me Rev up to 3.5K and if I then drive off the fault will clear and I will get full power and be able to drive normally. When I took the car into the local garage they plugged the computer in and could see an EGR fault and so have replaced this, they are now telling me that the linkage bar on the Induction Manifold is broken and that this is causing the problems but apparently that does not tie in with the description I give them about the limited Revs.
I am also told that I should not be able to press the brake on my car and rev the engine, that the ECU should stop this from happening - Is that right?
And that if the car dropped into limp mode (which is what I thought it was doing by limiting the revs to 2K) the car would not drop out of limp mode again until someone plugged a computer in and cleared it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what my problem could be? (besides a lack of money!) or any suggestions as to diagnostics that I could undertake?
Thank for any advice.
