    Default new key

    hey,

my key isnt working the buttons have broken, so i went and bought a second hand keyfob off ebay. put my old battery in the new fob and the immobiliser wouldnt turn off. turned it to the 2 position in the ignition and pressed the lock and unlock but still not working.

i have looked at threads on here but confused. i just need the new circuit board with my old battery and old key.

do i need a locksmith to programme it or someting?

    Thanks all

The key needs programming to the car, you'll need to take it to the dealers, unless you know someone who has access to the software,,

Alternately find someone to unsolder the switches off the replacement fob circuit board and solder them onto your old fob circuit board.

Unfortunately it's not as simple as buying a new key and expecting it to work.

The key fob has two main electrical functions. First, the lock/unlock buttons are programmed to the car by code and this function requires the fob battery. It uses the battery simply to remember the code.

Second, there is a small microchip inside the fob that requires no power, for the immobiliser. This is coded by the ECM and needs to be within 3 or 4 inches of the ignition barrel to activate a positive signal.

Your new key will need both functions programmed in using op com or tech 2. Stay away from main dealers though, IIRC, they charge around £70 PER KEY.

You can have a maximum of 5 keys programmed into the one car, worthwhile if your in the habit of loosing/braking keys.

Is it not in the manual that came with your op-com? You could always e-mail the makers and ask for some help?
