    Default Engine fault at high revs

    Hi all,

    I've just changed my EGR valve and given the boost sensor a clean on my 120 CDTi, after realising the symptons you guys mention on here were exactly the same as I was seeing.

    The engine now picks up just like it used to from low revs, and is like new again. I do still have a problem though! If I rev the car to over 3500rpm in 3rd or 4th gear, the spanner light comes on and it goes into limp mode. Not exactly good when you are overtaking something! It doesn't do it in 2nd though, which is strange. This was happening before I changed the EGR.

    Does a fault code still kick in until it is cleared? I don't know if an EGR fault is still registering as it hasn't been cleared, even though the valve has been changed.

    I have a code reader coming off EvilBay so I can find out what the fault is and clear it, but I thought I would ask for some advice before it gets here!

    Look through the "How2" section and find the one for reading fault codes using the brake pedal, then list the codes on here and we'll what they suggest.

    It sounds like a split hose or Intercooler to me. Mines used to do that (150 CDTI) and it was accompanied with the spanner light and limp mode and excessive black smoke out of the exhaust.

    If its only doing it at high revs stop ragging it and think of the diesel you'll save lol

    Lol, nice one Dave, good point well made!

    I'll have a check around the hoses and see if there are any splits. I don't get any black smoke, just the spanner and limp mode.

    Hopefully the reader should be here in the morning, if not I'll try the pedal method.

    Hi there I have a face lift 2005 Vectra cdti Sri 120 that has exactly the same problem as what you seem to be getting ( fine in 1st and 2nd gear to recline but over 3500rpm in 3rd and car with spanner light comes on and into limp mode.) can you give an update on what the cause was.

    Could be a split vacuum pipe. Not sure where they are on the 120 but click on my dig below for the 150. May be similar place.
