Smell of petrol in car

Hi

A couple of times now I have had a strong petrol smell in the car. It might be a coincidence but each time the fuel level has been not full, but fairly full. I had filled up, then done about 50-70 miles.

The fuel consumption is normal and I can't see any leaks under the car. I opened the bonnet when the smell was very srong and could not smell it under there. Engine is the 2.0T

It only does it occasionally just to make it more difficult

Any ideas anyone?

It could be the seal on the fuel gauge sender unit leaking a little bit, I think its under the back seat but I'm not 100% sure on that, worth a look tho

Checked the tank sender and its dry with no smell. Mind you it had stopped smelling at all now! Will have another look when smell returns...
