    Default Vectra 2003 V6 3.2 Idle problem

I was told about this forum by Armoured Farmer (Micky).. and i hope you could help me with this issue.

I'm from Mexico City and I own a Grey Vectra V6 3.2 and i'm very pleased with it.

I bought it from a friend not so long ago with 50,000km but most of them are from highways so the car was in excelent condition.

About I week ago i notice that the car stalls when i started it on the morning.
also but not all the time the car stalls a little when i wait in a red light.

the batery has 4 months so i discard that posiblility.

I started reading some similar problems in this and other forums but i couldn't find a 3.2 V6 with that issue so i ask for your help to locate the IAC "valve" to start with the cleaning of it.

If someone knows what other probable thing could be causing this i would appreciate the info.

thanks very much for your help.

    Jose Antonio Valle

PS. thnx for the tip Micky.. i found lots of intresting info in here.

    Hi and welcome mate...

the idle control valve is just by the right hand end of the pipe between the airbox and the engine...take the pipe off and you'll see the flap...

it's held on by 3 torx bolts..2 on the top and 1 on the bottom between the 2 small water pipes....then remove the one breather pipe that is located top left of the valve and disconnect the wiring plug...

You can then clean the valve out..

Other than that, get the dealer to check out the computer to see what the idle speed is set to....

Thx for the welcome and specially for your help and fast answer.
Could it be cleaned without removing it? like using a Carb cleaner spray throw the inlet hose?

yes it can, but it's harder to get the cleaners into the small holes on the side if it's still on the engine...remove it and it's soooo much easier when it';s in your hand..

since i recieve such great response i hope if you could tell me clear me out a few more questions regarding my vectra.

Is Synthetic oil a "must"? or can i use mineral oil and shorten oil changes (thats because synthetic oil is much more expensive than mineral in mexico (at least 3 times more). also could you tell me how many liters of oil are required on each oil change?.

My car has almost 60,000 km (about 48,000miles) but since i am not very familiarized with this engine (actually with any engine except the 2.Slow and 1.8t from VW) if you could tell me which other "elements" should i check with the mechanic?.

The Owners Guide only refers to oil change and filters in the 48,000 miles service but i don't want to take anything for granted.

Does the tiptronic tranny requires any service?

Which other things could you recommend me.

I know these are too many questions but i hope you could help me with at least a few of them.
