Engine Managment Light

Hey Guys,
The engine managment light suddenly came on the other day, the car feels exactly the same as far as i can tell, I was parked in a field car park if thats any relevance??
Any information on what it might be or how to read the code would be greatly appreciated , as i dont fancy paying a garage £40ish when there doesnt appear to be a problem
