    Default Rattle ...DMF or Clutch??

    Hey guys,
I noticed a rattle when in neutral, sounds a bit like dry tapets but it wasnt, I later realised when i press the clutch it goes quiet again. All so every now and then when i lift the clutch up to set off it makes a whinning type noise similar to turning the steering wheel all the way and you get the pump noise (thats the closest thing I could think of )
Any Advice on what it could be of how to fix it the cheapest way possbile would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers
    Chris

Sounds like flywheel to me, cheapest way to fix it is to buy the bits as cheap as poss (make sure you use LUK parts tho) and fit them yourself, to do the job properly you need the following:
    DMF
    Clutch Kit including Slave Cylinder
    6x Flywheel Bolts
    Gearbox Oil (75w/80 synthetic)x3.2litres
    Brake Fluid (DOT4)x1litre

if you're not 100% confident to do it yourself, get someone else to do it as its quite involved to get the gearbox out and you have to partially remove the subframe. If you are quite good on the spanners then you should be able to figure it out, battery and battery tray out, pipe off slave cylinder, starter off, bottom ball joints off, drain gearbox oil, remove driveshafts, undo steering rack from subframe, undo anti roll bar links, undo left side subframe bolts, slack drivers side subframe bolts (do not undo all the way), undo front and rear engine/gearbox mounts, remove gear selector and cables, undo bell housing bolts, support engine, remove gearbox mount, the gearbox should then come out and give you access to the slave, clutch and flywheel, make sure you use new flywheel bolts and refitting is the reverse of removal. Like I say quite involved so if you're not 100% sure you can do it or you haven't got the right tools let someone else do it.

Mine is doing exactly the same, When i press down the clutch ever so slightly i have a rattle. My dad works for BMW and has said its the flywheel and local vauxhall said the same. they want £1000.00 to replace it. I've got a 2007 CDTI 150hp and can get the part dor £250.00 all in.

You might get a flywheel for 250 but then you've got the bolts, the clutch and slave cylinder to replace and all the necessary fluids on top, its about 500 quid for all the bits.
