    Default 1.9 CDTi v 3.0 CDTi?

When I started looking for a Vectra I thought it would be nice too have some power too, love the VXR but costs too high for me.
I compared the 1.9 & 3.0 CDTi and felt the extra cost of the 3.0 gave very little gains and tuning it was risky. So I went for the the 1.9 knowing there was also good tuning potential.
I find it hard to understand how my 1.9 now produces more power, more torque and more speed than the 3.0 yet still uses less fuel, are the 3.0 that bad, i'm sure glad it didn't but the one I first looked at.

The 3.0 V6 is an Isuzu lump, I do know that in the Saab's it was very much a bad engine as it would drop liners and have a lifespan of about 70K Saab replaced loads of them under warranty for this reason. It is thirsty and was quite a short lifespan engine in Saab for this reason. I have not seen as many issues in the Vectra platform but have read of a lot of problems on here. It doesn't enjoy the same tune-ability as the 1.9 is more thirsty as you say, quite a lot more thirsty!

I would love to know more about this lump myself but there is very little reading available and what there is seems doom & gloom!

I am happy to stick with the 1.9 even in 150 form as last night it proved a very capable companion when I was pressing on

To estimate the lifespan of the 3.0TID to 70k is a bit mad My mate has a 9-5 Estate from 2001. One of the very first It has 135k miles and he rags it every single day when the temperatures outside are below 25°C

It's not that thirsty or do I have a magic right foot? Never had below 35mpg on the German autobahns Getting 33mpg now with aircon, 30% of town driving and the rest is motorways at 100+mph

The only thing to remember with this engine is NOT to abuse it too much. Extended full throttle journeys killed a lot of V6CDTi's in Saabs and Vec/Sigs too...

I've read a lot about this engine, so if anyone has a question, you know where I am

I think the problems Saab had with the 3.0 were due to over heating. In the vec this was sorted and they seem to be more reliable than the 1.9s, although when they do go wrong they are more expensive. In terms of performance a tunned 1.9 would keep up with a 3.0 but again, tunning a 1.9 is asking for trouble IMHO in terms of reliability.
I had a 3.0 (much preferred it to the 1.9) never gave any trouble, but as I don't do much mileage now I changed for the VXR.
    My 3.0 averaged about 38 - 39 mpg, now only getting 22 - 27 if I'm careful - LOL
