    Default smoke alarm grrr

Got woke up at 3:30am this morning with the smoke alarm going off like the house was on fire. I've never moved so fast in my life out of bed. Was there a fire? NO! It suddenly stopped and went silent.

On the upside, at least my house wasn't burning down. On the downside, it's possibly the worst way in the world to get woken up suddenly at 3am!

Time to change the batteries mate, some alarms give different warnings, mine beeps for 40 seconds, How did the " escape routine " go.....

We had a few firemen round not long ago fitting new alarms, and they questioned us on vearious escape routes, and TBH until then i hadnt really thought of it

indeed in the event of a real fire ...i would rather be woken that way..than die from smoke inhalation

One of my first jobs was to maintain the fire alarm systems in local council run warden assisted sheltered accommodation. The main cause of false alarms was small insects entering the smoke detector head through the fine gauze that protected the detection chamber. Dust sometimes caused false alarms too. You could try vacuuming around the detector heads to remove any dust or debris just in case that was the cause of the alarm. HTH

Mine did this the other day too, though thankfully it was around 7pm!

Was strange, just went off on its own, no fire, then stopped about 30 seconds later. I looked around and everything was fine... made but rush upstairs too as I thought something was on fire!!

Never done it since and never did it before then either....
