    Default Wheel balancing over 70mph

When i drive above 70mph the steering wheel wobbles slightly but if i do 70mph or less then the wobble goes. I presume its something to do with the wheel balancing as it doesnt wobble under braking, etc.

I went to a couple of local garages and Kwik Fit and they tell me that there machines only go up to 70mph so thats never going to help me. Anyone got any ideas?

I know ive opened myself up to wise cracks Im ready for em

Surely they (KF) can check that a cars wheels are balanced correctly, if not take it somewhere where they actually know something about cars and the way that they are engineered.

I had a similar issue recently, most KF outlets only balance within the stated tolerances which is + or - 5 grams. This means that the wheels wont wobble below 70 mph. (Mine did it dead on the speed limit which was annoying)

You need to get them balanced on fine settings and get all four down to 0 - 0 grams.

Is it a wobble or a vibration?

There's a problem with the wheel/tyre - what speed it arrives at isn't the issue, so when they say their machine doesn't go past 70, they're really saying they can't be bothered to look.

What exact problem could it be with the wheel for it to wobble at 70mph? As far as i am concerned its the wheel that out of balance and as Exclusive says it needs finely balancing. I would say its more of a vibration than wobble. Its okay going round town, etc but as soon as im doing motorway miles then its a tad annoying!

Mines the same, the dealers have balanced them three times and rotated them with no joy, next week its going in again and staying with them for 5 days whilst they strip the problem areas down part by part until they cure the problem.

Is it steel rims or alloys? I had steel and one of the front rims was buckled, no amount of wheel balancing could cure that. Price of a new rim was £70. But I chose alloys.....now no wobble...but costs me extra premium as alloys are considered as modification. Its a 04 reg. Ended up both happy and sad.....worth checking if you are on steel rims.
