Default how do i find air con leak ?

I know my vec c 56 Sri as a leak on the system as someone tried to gas it up but it wouldn't because it showed up having a leak. I know a local guy who does air con , but he says it will cost me 70 quid just to try and find the leak as he has to gas it up and add dye. Does this sound right ? Any advice welcome. Apart from the open the windows ! I'm in the barnsley area .

there are some aircon places which use a pressure test rather than a vacuum test.. this way you can hear it blow the air (or whatever they use) out from the leak.. Failing that it is the use of a dye to track it down

£70 sound about right, had a good look about for prices when the gass escaped from mine, turned out to be the condenser.

When I rebuilt the Cavs aircon after a crunch took out the condenser etc, I clamped an old wheel valve into a DIY charge hose, connected it to my tyre compressor and put 50 psi in.

Initially the gauge dropped, so out with washing up solution on all the joints to trace the leak. Tightened and retested, and held for 30 mis.

Got it re-gassed and it was fine
