confused 2.0T - Timing Chain Change - How Often Please??

How often should the timing chain be changed on a 2.0T Vec C (03) ?

Is it correct that if I go to a VX dealer, they'll be able to give me a complete breakdown of any work carried out on the car by VX?

I have no idea when the chain and the other gear was changed and the car I've bought has done 94K. Sounds a bit rattley when it's first started from cold but that's for less than 2 seconds.

    Cheers.

If its rattly its time to get it changed mate. And yes, if the car has had any work done on it by any other dealer then they can give you a print out of all the work, its job numbers and costs involved, it will also show you any warranty work done HTH.

As Rushy says, forget about the timing chain until you hear it rattling. Autodata doesn't even give any info in the timing belt/chain section because Vxl don't specify any replacement intervals. Think of them as you would any other engine component; ie if they aint broke, you don't need to fix/replace them

If it is rattling now it should be looked at, before it gets any worse.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm unsure if the rattle on start up is coming from the chain or the aux belt underneath?

I was thinking maybe the tensioner on the aux belt?

The chain tensioner is activated with oil pressure i believe, where the Aux belt is just a spring, so the aux belt is always tight. Where as a slack chain will rattle until the tensioner has it's full steam of pressure just after you crank it over, that's my understanding of it.

The known problem with the auxiliary belt is more of a twittering sound than a rattle, only happens on cold start, goes very soon after moving off, and never recurs if the engine is warm/hot, and is usually caused by the pulley and/or tensioner needing replacement, although if so, it's a good idea to replace the belt at the same time.

Has anyone changed an aux belt on there 2.0T? I get the little tweeting noise when cold. Looking at that pic it doesn't look too hard. I take it you just release the tension and replace the belt? It looks tight to do tho. Looking at the pic I cant see any power steering pump/pulley? Are there an?y other ancillaries this belt drives? If I breaks will it cause any knid of valve train damage
