Default Any ideas how to remove this?

Well, after seeing a few "Gearbox oil" questions, thought I'd change mine, the how 2 on here is great and very easy to follow...

I loosened the filling bolt first as advised, then went to undo the drain plug, to be greeted by this...

    Attachment 33331

Its obviously been tried or done before and the bolt hasnt been replaced although it obviously needed to be!

I syringed a little oil out of the box and its is filthy. I only wanted to replace it with 2.4 litres like the TIS says to help get rid of the notchy 1st to 2nd...

I tried using WD40 and a shock and unlock spray but no joy, the slightest movement rounds it off more.

So do you think i'm looking at having it drilled and rethreaded???

    Any ideas on cost?

    Gutted...

Could try using a dremel or similar to cut a slot for a big screwdriver tip, then use an impact driver on it, or if you have clearance, a beefy screwdriver. So annoying when people do this then just leave it for the next person.

Like above I would slice a notch in with a dremel then get a screwdriver on it and tap it round

Failing that then buy a new plug I would any way regardless and drill through it with a drill bit get
a bolt with a left hand thread on it then tap the drilled plug same thread with a left hand tap
then screw in the left hand bolt and as you tighten it will undo

Just a case of finding a left hand tap
    and
    bolt of same
    size

A hammer and chisel. Works every time. Have your new drain plug to hand though

The only thing not mentioned that might be worth a try is to get the next size up torx socket and hammer it in to whats left and see if it bites enough to undo it.

    As Winnie2457 said,

If all fails buy a new plug from stealers then drill through and instead of buying a lefthanded tap and bolt just buy some extractors! heres some on fleabay just need to know how big the thread is on the new plug to know what size ectractor to get! you can buy a complete extractor kit from halfruards but to be honest id buy a good make,
Im a machinist and the best taps and extactors are dormer so check out the linky iv kindly given
