    Default my 2.0t sounds like a tractor

    hey all

    When i start my car it idles and makes noises like a tractor. then when i accelarate it sounds as if the exhaust is rattling. no smoke or anything and still goes well

    very embarrasing like my spelling!!!

    anyone experiance this?

    not to scare u or nowt but mine sounded the same apart from the exhaust sound when my chain had slipped. like i say not to scare u but i would say the timing chain. what mileage u done mate.

    Hey. It's done 85k. Alot of rattle from exhaust

    i would say that the chain is knackered mate at that mileage if not been changed yet. like i say not entirely sure about ur exhaust though.

    Have you checked your connections/joints on the exhaust system i.e. cat/downpipe and downpipe/centre section as if they are a bit loose it can sound a bit like what you're describing, especially with the exhaust rattle. Check those out first before you start going down the route of timing chain investigations as I doubt if it would be that with the symptoms you're describing.

    hi mate mine sounded like a tracotor the other day where the turbo bolts to the manifold 2 bolts i fallen out i still have a ittle exhasust ratle now but when driving engine is so qite again

    and at that age and mileage i would have a poke around the exhaust heat shields ...possibley fractured on its mounts ....one of 4 under the vehicle
    by the time mine went at the beginning of the month i had removed all 4

    Been to garage, the whole ofthe exhaust is rotten and hole in one of the backbox.. hmms will need to look for new exhaust. vauxhall want 1100!!! an after market one will be cheaper.. any ideas??
