    Default Power Steering Leak

My 1.8VVT SRi is leaking fluid this evening. In the last week or so there has been a knocking noise coming from the front of the car occasionally at low speeds whether in gear or just coasting in neutral like down a hill in a traffic jam. Not sure if its related but this evening it got worse on the journey home.
Pulled up on the drive and put the steering on full lock (Right hand down) and could see fluid dripping from the rear of the engine bay. The fluid was cold and clear but oily in texture.
Moved the car, switched the engine off and the leak stopped. Found the p/s resevoir at the back of the engine, its a white bottle with a black cap and unscrewed the cap and found the dipstick dry apart from a little residue but it was the same fluid as i found on the drive.
Anyway it appears to be one of the p/s pipes broke or cracked or loose below the resevoir. Has anyone had a similar instance of this occuring? And what is the fluid spec for the p/steering? Its certainly not ATF pink type.
Could it infact be something more serious than a duff pipe?
No EPS warning light on display so hopefully I haven't done more serious damage by running the sytem dry.

I thought the power steering fluid bottle was under the driver's side wheel arch...?

    Bit red faced here.

Turns out it was water from the air con system, although I'm wasn't convinced until the car came back from the garage and was given a clean bill of health. The driveway at home was totally clear as well! No oily residue.
However, there is a creak / knock at the front which only appears intermittently and only at very low speeds - like less than 20mph and it does happen when I apply the brakes sometimes . The garage could not find anything wrong with the suspension, drop links etc all ok. So I'm going to leave it and see if it gets worse.

Mine is a 52 plate and the power steering fluid resivior is under the drivers side headlight, have to remove airfilter box to get fluid in, luckly it has only needed to be topped up twice in 5 years.
