glazing on the surface of the pads - this is more common now that they dont allow asbestos in the pads which used to lubricate them when applied... now you have a higher concentration of metal on metal which casues rotor resonance when you apply the brakes LIGHTLY if there squealing at any other speeds (over 10 mph) then there is another issue

this is also more common when there still cold and SOMETIMES disappears when there hot - but not always
lots of manufacturers are suffering with the issue - best option it to remove the pads and rough up the suface this will help - but they need to be bedded back in - you can also try chamfering the edges of the pads this will decrease the leading surface area =which will increase the pressure on the face (stillehtoe effect) which helps decrease the squeals...but can also cause lipping on the discs ....the final option is to try another make and hope that they come with noise suppresson shims (metal plates that have small springs on them) which buffers the brakes and stops the noise as well

so you should only notice below 10mph, mine happens at any speed, but there is loads of life left in the pads

ditto chris, osf on mine squeals slighty at any speed with light pressure, but goes of as you depress the pedal. plenty meat still on pads.

Did you apply any coppaslip to the backs of the pads and sliding contact surfaces on the edge of the pad backing as without this they squeek something awful.

Cheap pads without the shims give this problem a lot, try some better pads (with the shims) with new slider plates and plenty of copper grease that should shut them up.

sorry guys just to clarify == the noise if present at over 10 mph i was expecting you to be braking heavier ..... rather than lightly ... as this could be worn brakes with heavy braking ...or stones stuck on the brake pads face

as i said its probabably going to be as per my first post and DaveW555 seems to agree noise suppression shims will/should resolve the issues
