Default Battery, Abs and TC lights coming on

    Hi all

I have had this problem on my car ever since I bought it 2 weeks ago and can't really seem to fogure out what the cause might be.
After starting the engine and regardless of driving or leaving the car standing, the battery, abs and tc light all come on with all dials not working.

I have probably been to every garage and birmingham with not much help.
I have had my battery tested several times which is working fine.
Someone else at a garage told me its the altenator.

I then decided to buy a cheap one (£40quid) at a scrappy and took it to another garage this morning to get it fitted.

The mechanic however tested my alternator by taking off the negative connection on the car to run the car off the alternator. (not advised as this can cause damage to your electrics)
He told me the alternator on the car was fine and didn't need replacing.

I then went back to the scrappy to return the alternator that I bought.

Just to mention that the lights come on regardless of driving or leaving the car standing and that the car does not have any starting problems and that the brightness of the lights do not change as I rev the engine.

Is there anyone out there who can shine some light on this ?

Thanx guys, your help is much appreciated.
    wali.

Maybe a long shot , but might be worth removing the abs plug (sits to the right of the coolant tank when looking from front of car) and giving the contacts a good clean with some switch cleaner and see what happens.

you could try leaving the battery disconnected for a few hours to try and reset the ECU. it wont cost u anything & u never know it might work

    hey guys

    thanx for all the replies.

I did try to clean the connection plug with no luck and also tried to disconnect the battery.

I did get the code reading done and all it showed was that it had problems with the immobilizer and the steering.

Will try to change the alternator today and see what happends, might work then.

Afraid to see this sounds like the problem i was having. Its the CIM module behind the steering wheel. Try giving it a good thump with your fist just behind the steering wheel. I was also having this problem untill i did the thump , its been good ever since lol.
Dont waste your money on alternator tbh. As it wont be that. Clocks have nothing to do with the alternator
