    Default oil change

Trying to change the oil on 2003 vectra c diesel. Everything sorted so far, just need to remove the drain plug. Presume it is the one that yer use an allen key for at the rear of sump. What is the correct way of removing it as it seems very tight. Allen key does not fit greatly and also no leverage to remove it. Is it anti clockwise to remove........Cheers...Colin

It'll be anti-clockwise. Are you definitely using the correct size of allen key? Has it been slightly rounded by a previous owner/garage? If so then be careful you don't round it off even more!

Are you using normal allen keys? If so you may struggle to get enough leverage, especially if some idiot has wrenched it up tightly with an airgun. Do you not have a ratchet handle with an allen key socket? That makes the job so much easier.

Yer. Found that it aint an allen key but one of them strange star shaped inserts. Got right piece for it but still very tight .Think that they may have used an airgun on it.

Yep, a Torx bit you mean. Again easier if you have the torx bits for a ratchet rather then just the allen key type ones.

    Hi Bud
give the drain plug a couple of sharp nocks with a hammer to shock the thread(as though you are nocking the plug up into the sump)then try again, you will be amazed how many idiots over tighten drain plugs causing this problem.
if no luck put your torx on a socket bar pull on bar to remove plug and get someone to the tap the torx up to the sump wilst you keep pulling bar

Just make sure it's a T45 sized torx bit. Some people think that it's a T40 then wonder why it slips and chews it up.
