    Default Two Motorbike Tales

    1. Whilst driving to work on Thursday I hit the usual crawl on the M62 at Brighouse. Motorbikes filter through as I would do if I was riding. But there's always one that continues to filter when the speed increases; now, in my book this constitutes undertaking! Traffic was flowing at around 50-60mph and this bike flies up the inside of me, then a few minutes later I see the same rider banging on the window of an Escort Estate. I didn't see what happened but I'm guessing that the Escort pulled across the path of the rider and narrowly missed him. Obviously a few choice hand signals were exchanged as when the rider accelerated off he punched the wing mirror off the Escort and legged it.

    2. Again on Thursday, on my way back from Grimsby, I was in the outside lane doing 70-80mph with a Silver Volvo V70 in front and a Ninja bike behind. You know the type, his leathers match the colour of his bike perfectly. The bike was right up my 'arris, obviously wanting me to move over but I had no-where to go (busy M62 again). I finally managed to move over and let him passed, and he screamed passed me upto the rear of the Volvo. After a few minutes, Blue and Red strobes started flashing in the rear window of the Volvo. Needless to say the rider sh47 himself and pulled across in front of me. He'd just been right up the 'arris of an unmarked police car. The officer turned off his strobes and continued on his way.

Lesson - Think once, think twice, think bike; Oh and unmarked police car.

    Two more for you:

1, Had a biker in A+E last week, had come off his bike, hit a curb, lost half his leg and some facial injuries, died in Resus through blood loss I believe.

2, My Brother-in-law's father died a few days ago after coming off his bike and sustaining massive brain damage. He'd been a bike racer at various levels most of his life.

and these are the reasons i don't think i'll ever have the bottle to ride a bike. it's just too easy to have a serious accident - because any accident is likely to be serious. there is no minor collision when it comes to bikes.

i'll stick with the 4 wheels!!

Im an avid biker.....and tales of bad injury and loss of life do make me sad and I feel for the people involved...they also serve me with a reminder to be more steady and careful...
but when youve ridden bikes for years its part of life....and the risks involved are accepted.
    You will always get the..

"I was on the back wheel at 120 when some t0sser gets in me way"
these people obviously have a death wish and no respect for other road users..

for those who dont want or like bikes its your choice...but not all bikers are of the same mentality..there are some of us who do ride safely

I used to ride a bike on a daily basis.

I was knocked off by someone in a car who "didn't see me".

Result was a 3 month stop in hospital, 18 months rehab and permenant disability. 2 Broken wrists (one now plated to fix) and a broken pelvis (in 2) all plated and screwed together, permenant nerve damage in my left leg.

    No more bikes for me

I had a similar accident when I was younger, two smashed wrists, pelvis in two places & nose + damage to my neck, A year off work and a very large insurance payout, I spent the insurance on a Ducati and got straight back on it ... There are more idiots in cars than on bikes, thats my opinion anyhoo ...
