    Default 3.2gsi cam belt.

am I right in saying that at 45,000 miles I need a cam belt on my gsi?

if true, do I need to replace the water pump?

    thanks.

Depends what year it is matey, autodata says 2002 its every 40k and the tensioner and guide pulley must also be replaced. 2003 onwards it says every 80k and the tensioner and guide pulley must also be replaced. It doesn't matter if you do the water pump at the same time as it isn't driven by the timing belt on the z32se engine.

It's up to you. Mine was done at 80k and it didn't look good. I had the water pump changed too as it's located behind the cambelt so to avoid a future problem it was changed. If it went later on then it would be a lot of time and labour and possibly another cambelt.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I recomend that you change the belt( and the pullies "etc" too) at 40k. We used to have a Moderator on here who knew Vectras, inside out (and just about all VX cars too) If he was stiil on here he would recomend 40k.
I belive though that VX did at a lter date revert back to 40k as they found that at 80k a lot of cambelts were not lasting that long!!.
In my opinion, best to "err" on the side of caution.

The previous owner of mine was over cautious and got it done at around 20k and i got it done again at 40k while the oil pump was off.

I would get it done at half the recomended interval on any car just to be on the safe side as the guys above said although you will have people who are quite happy to take it right to the 80k or not do it at all but thats a risky game to play.
