    Default Cruise Control.....

    Hey people

Just wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be with my cruise control. Lastnight on the way home from shopping, i hit a long stretch of road that has a 40 limit so took the car up to 40mph, and went to flick the cruise on, nothing happened, tried again, still nothing.

So i pulled over at the side of the road, turned the car off, left it a minute, then turned it back on, still the cruise control wasnt working.

I didnt have my foot resting on the clutch, the handbrake was as far down as it could go, so im thinking maybe a dodgy wire somewhere???

any help would be appriciated, otherwise its a trip to the stealers for me again.

on some cars, you need to have pressed the brake pedal before the CC wil let you activate it...otherwise could be a dodgy stalk..had this prob with mine and sorted at the dealers..hth..

Yes, on manual transmission cars you need to press the brake at least once since turning the car on before the cruise control will work. This problem can't happen on an auto since you can't shift out of park without pressing the brake pedal.

I had this problem a couple of times in my previous Vectra and IIRC it was after having to brake quite harshly at fairly quick speeds due to an EEjit in front. Cruise wouldn't switch on no matter how many times I tried, braked, accelerated, gear changed etc. I pulled over, switched engine off, removed key, switched on but still nothing. I continued my journey without cruise (for about a further 20 miles I think) until the next service station, tried again (engine off, key out, back on) and it was all systems go again. Very strange ... never found out what it was.

Could be just the clutch return spring, try pulling the clutch pedal up then engaging the CC.

I had this problem on the odd occassion. In fact, it occured 10-11 times during the 18 months I have had the car.

If I had the cruise activated & needed to use the brake, when I went to reactivate the cruise nothing would happen. Was like it had gone into hibernation. Too solve the problem I needed to turn the car off. Anyway, during the first full service last week I told the dealer about this & upon picking up the car was told they identified that an error regarding the cruise had been logged on the cars computer. They ended up replacing the CIM (new stalks etc) & reset all relevant doo dahs. End result, all sorted.

I had a similar problem which started the day after I got the car, 5th of May 2004 (brand new), which the dealer appears to have sorted now..........after more than 20 visits with the same problem.

The last time it was noted that they replaced the clutch switch for the 6th time, they say this is because it's a poor design .......they have also replaced all other switchs' & sensor's connected to the CC know to man on numerous occasions.

Mine seamed to mis-behave in the winter. It's been fine since March but was as above from October to February.
