Talking BHP per Tonne - You'll like this

I have spent the last hour messing around on my laptop, finding out what BHP cars have per Tonne. I went for the common racing models and did a few luxurious race cars, cars that we can only dream of owning. As a starting off point, mine will go first.
    Car/Model/BHP = BHP per Tonne

    Vectra 1.9CDTi 206bhp = 141
    Vectra 1.9CDTi 147bhp = 100
    Astra 1.9CDTi (888) 200bhp = 148
    Corsa VXR Arctic 204bhp = 166
    Astra VXR 236bhp = 191
    Vectra VXR 251bhp = 160
    Vectra VXR 276bhp = 176
    Insignia VXR 320bhp = 176
Mini Cooper John Cooper Works 208bhp = 184
    Focus RS 300bhp = 204
    Seat Leon Cupra R 261bhp = 189
    Volkswagen Golf R32 246bhp = 159
    Honda Civic Type R 198bhp = 156
    Honda S2000 240bhp = 190
    Renault Clio Renaultsport 194bhp = 156
    Renault Megane R26R 226bhp = 183
    Subaru Impreza WRX STi (08 on) 325bhp = 215
    Mitsubishi Evolution X 354bhp = 226
    Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDi 309bhp = 118
    BMW M3 414bhp = 258
    BMW M5 499bhp = 265
    BMW M6 499bhp = 258
    Nissan GT-R 471bhp = 270
    Mercedes-Benz SLS 63 AMG 563bhp = 347
    Bugatti Veyron 16.4 987bhp = 501

Hope you've enjoyed the read. What's the best BHP per tonne people can find?

1200hp Hennessey Venom GT that I was reading about just the other day. 1200bhp and 1135 lb.ft of torque!

It weighs 1217 kg so that's as near-as-damn-it 1000bhp per tonne!! Same as the Caparo T1 referred to in the article, but with just a tad more comfort! lol

What has always interested me is the great and amazing Bugatti Veyron with its 1000bhp. But when you talk real performance, and look at BHP/TON.

    Bugatti Veyron: 530 bhp/ton
    Mclaren F1: 550bhp/ton (way back in 1993)

So we had already achieved greater performance, and indeed those in the know would place a Mclaren F1 as being faster round a track than the lardy Bugatti!

The Zonda F has 528bhp/ton... thats the one one that beat the bugatti on the test track, that lighter shell must have helped handling no end as it beat it with 2bhp/ton less....

    Ther greats........

    Koenigsegg CCX 694bhp/ton

    Ariel Atom 2 300 669bhp/ton

    Ariel Atom 3 300 669bhp/ton

    Radical SR8 665bhp/ton

    LeBlanc Caroline GTR 663bhp/ton

    Ultima GTR 640 657bhp/ton

    Dauer 962 LM 656bhp/ton

    9FF 9F-V400 651bhp/ton

    Hennessey Venom 1000 649bhp/ton

    Koenig Competition Evolution 640bhp/ton

    McLaren F1 LM 632bhp/ton

    Radical SR3 Turbo 620bhp/ton

    Westfield Sport 2000S FW 605bhp/ton

    Gumpert Apollo 600bhp/ton

    Tiger Z100WR 594bhp/ton

    Roadrazer 593bhp/ton

    Ultima Can Am 592bhp/ton

    MB Roadcars MBR V8 588bhp/ton

    Schuppan 962CR 581bhp/ton

The Shelby SCC Ultimate aero has 1003bhp/ton...

    My bike (Honda Vfr 800) 107BHP = 491BHP/Tonne.

I guess I'm currently in the lead for vehicles that we actually own.

[Waits for a sports bike owner to come along and trump it.]

I seem to recall my Westfield has something like 220bhp/ton, pretty tame for a Westy, but not bad for a car with a suffix registration plate and an 8 valve pushrod engine (1979)

The 17 yr old opposite (hasn't even had driving lessons yet) looks on my Vec CDTi with contempt, due to seeing the Bugatti Veyron on Top Gear.
I pointed out he'll likely never see the Bugatti on UK roads, and 130mph and 0-60 under 10 seconds isn't bad for a family car, plus my tyres last longer than 15 minutes at speed and are a damn sight easier - and cheaper, to replace -
but what do I know, I've only had 40 years hands on experience, he's had 6 months of college.
Interesting seeing it laid out like this, and the comparisons.
