    Default Creaking brakes 2.2DTI SRi..?

Ive done a search but couldn't find anything so.....

When braking at low speeds (10mph-0mph) I get a creaking noise. From just listening to the noise whilst driving, I've been unable to tell if its coming from the front or rear of the car. However, I investigated slightly last night and whilst theres no play in the front wheels, when holding a rear wheel at 12 o'clock and giving a sharp tug, there is a noticeable amount of play and a clunking noise.

Is it likely that the creaking is related to this play? Can anyone point me in the direction of what the problem may be?

    Cheers

    Dave

Your rear upper control arms need to be replaced - they're the banana shaped metal bars with a rubber bush at each end.

Thanks. Is it a hard job to do? Im intending changing the discs and pads very soon so could do perhaps do it at the same time?

Not a bad idea to do these jobs at the same time, especially as Haynes recommends unbolting the brake caliper before changing the control arms, to give you more room - although I left the caliper where it is. The best job to combine with the control arms though is replacement of the rear springs. Access to the inner bolt is a lot harder with the spring in place -can anyone comfirm they've changed the control arms without removing the springs?
