    Default modification to air box????

In a different post Spikey hinted that there is a modification you can do in the air box which involves removing the half pipe.

Will it cause me any problems if I do this and if not then what purpose does it serve in there if it can be taken out, my tiny brain cant get past the reasoning behind Vauxhall putting it in if its not needed. Will doing the above make a noticeable difference ie any gain in BHP, i imagine not but if it can breath better then I can see the benefit to doing it.

That's why you have a air filter, it's need to be checked often.

The funnel shaped thing in the lid causes the air to slow down and thus the pressure to increase. That way you get better transferance of air through the filter and a more even transfer over the whole filter.

I modified my box to add an extra cold air feed but the ECU used to complain about the amount of air going in with the little car and spanner (at about 4000rpm onwards). Having been discusted with the amount of **** I've found in my air box too I decided to put filters over the air intakes to stop large particles even getting to the filter. I now still have plenty of air getting in but it is much cleaner.

there is also another reason why VX had to install the baffle pipe,

it was for noise polution regulations, the baffle pipe reduced the decibles of the air intake system and as such made it quieter ,

taking out the pipe makes the induction noise a little louder and gives the car a slightly better ' burble ' , while giving a little more airflow allowing for better combustion

I didn't notice a change in noise when I took mine out? Might have been after I added the extra air feed to the box though...

Makes a very nice woosh noise with the extra feed, wouldn't dream of drowning that out, I love listening to it as I change gear and it whistles down then up again.
