    Default Bumper re-painting prep advice please

    Iv got An SRI bumper i need to get painted as its the wrong colour off an 07 reg car .... .... iv got a bottom lip spoiler to glue on too and iv got the tiger seal...

    But ... should i scratch down the old paint with 600 grit wet & dry 1st ?

    Also, if some1 could let me know how these side skirts fit too ?? ... iv got some plastic clips/straps ... but iv never fitted them B4

    All help is much appreciated

    You do indeed need to rough up/key the surface of the bumper before repainting it, or the new paint will struggle to stick to it. 600 grit seems a bit coarse though, maybe try a finer grade.

    hi mate, key it with scotch pad. where you going to be sparaying it? oven? shed? garden? with regards to the last 2 you should really flatten between coats also, using 1600-2000 grit w/d, with plenty of water, same with the clear coat.

    Im getting a spay/repair centre to paint it ... but thought id save a bit by prepping it myself

    so id 600grit a def' No No ? as iv got some spare

    6OOgrit will be fine bud,solvent base coat can cover 400grit scratches,and water base basecoat can cover 600grit scrathes.only time i use lighter paper would be for a light colour.
