oh god is it a common fault?? £1400 quid was mega dear to get it done but that serves you right for taking it to the stealers, I do them for 650 quid all in using the same parts as the dealer. At least you'll know for next time

Most cars have this DMF thing, especially if the mileage is high. Ford Mondeo's have that fault as well, as I've recently found out. As the DMF wears out, the metal filings can work their way into the starter motor and clog it up, causing it to seize. I was looking at £1100 for mine, but got mine done at an independent garage for £600

My original clutch made it to 154,000 sadly you have to replace both clutch and DMF together. I had that noise when you bottom out the clutch, that noise got progressively worse till the gearbox started to sound like an industrial sander and it was hard to get the car into first.

My Vectra before it had no such problem, just everything else

hi but are you a vaux dealer and i was told it is a big job and you need a lining tool (what ever that is ) also common fault do you think it is or is down to poor driving, because the last time I had a new clutch etc mileage was about 130000, different car though

No I'm not a vauxhall dealer I'm an independant self employed mechanic, you dont really need any special tool to line anything up just a good eye lol, I've done a good few of these now from 68k to 116k (my own needed changing at 99k) so its just one of those things that come to us all I'm afraid and vectra's are no worse than any other cars fitted with DMF's so don't feel too disheartened by it. People with mondeo's have been fitting transit flywheels and clutches to get round it but sadly we dont have a solid version to switch to.

The Flywheel I wouldn't worry too much about m8. Hairy31 on here had it done for £600ish. You have a bit of time, mines has been rattling for about 4 years/80k but get it repaired as soon as though as it will start to damage the starter solenoid. As for the clutch you may as well get that changed too as it it would be a false economy otherwise m8.
