    Default using 6th gear

hi,since fitting 19" alloys , the gearing is very high, and i don,t use 6th gear as much as when i had 17" alloys. does the speedo alter as well excellent on the motorway as the rev,s drop in 6th.

It's your imagination, the rolling circumference is virtually the same
When changing tyre wheel sizes the profile typically gets higher, get it wrong and all kinds of problems begin

However, from memory, once you go to 18" and 19" wheels you need to have the car TEC2 to change the tyre specification so that the ABS sensors don't get confused

No you dont. 215/50/17 are exactly the same rolling diameter as 235/35/19.

So if the wheels still go round at exactly the same amount whats to confuse the abs sensors???

There is a list of tyre specifications within TEC2, from memory if you use some of them you need to make the change
I had to do it on changing from 215/50R17 to 225/45R17
The difference is minimal, but once the change is made the car responds much better

Sorry, but rubbish. How on earth will the car respond much better by altering that value in Tech 2?! All that does is bring the speedo back into line for the (very) small difference in circumference between those two sizes. It's something like 2% difference in circumference between those two sizes so the difference on the speedo will be minimal.

When I changed from 215/50/17 to 225/45/17 I didn't bother with the Tech 2 tweak - certainly wasn't paying a dealer through the nose for something that didn't matter. All it meant was that my speedo over-read slightly more than it would've normally. When I changed from 225/45/17 to 225/40/18 it changed slightly again i.e. over-read a tidge more so that now my speedo would overread by around 4mph at 70mph. As I had Vaux-Com at that point I made the adjustment and brought it back in line to it's normal small amount of over-reading which it would be as standard.
