    Default Need Windscreen Replaced!!!!!

Was cleaning inside of windows and my elbow knocked the interior mirror, was just gentle touch. The mirror broke off the windscreen and took a large chunk of the glass with it. 1 point to the mirror adhesive, nil points to the glass! Gonna cost me £90 excess to be replaced.

Thats a common problem with all cars these days, Been fitting windscreens for over 15 years and a small percentage have been damaged the same way. The mirror boss comes bonded on when the glass is manufactured. You've just been unlucky mate, most of the time when a mirror is knocked it will just knocked the whole mirror and boss off the glass leaving no damage, the boss can then be glued back on.

I've seen previous mention that it's not advisable to superglue the mount back on as it can cause the glass to crack as it doesn't allow for expansion and contraction when it gets hot or cold.

Gonna have a word with dealer, cars only 2 years old, still under warranty. I'll chance my luck and see what happens.

What do you guys think about the thickness of these windscreens?

When driving down the motorway, I can hear every bug and flying insect hitting it.

Never noticed that before in other cars.

Thinnest out there has to be VAG ie vw audi seat skoda. They have insanely thin glass , makes me wonder how it's supposed to protect the occupants. To be honest tho it's all about cost cutting, There is a minimum thickness of glass that is a legal requirement in all cars made today and it seems to be branching on borderline with nearly all of the brands available. BTW ask when you get your windscreen for a dealer part and they have to oblige as it is your insurance company paying for it. If you don't ask you will get inferior glass made by .......wait for it.....Pilkington. They make good house windows but shocking car glass.

The stuff we use at work is Loctite multibond available from most car parts shops, halfords, etc
