As some of you might be aware i had my car forsale on here and ebay.
ive just had a chap that was interested in buying the car ask "why is your car for sale on pistonheads for £3400 "
Low and behold some dirty scum has copied my add and pics and got it for sale. ******s. Ive tried calling the number but no joy, so ive sent them a message asking for a contact number as im really interested in buying the car. If anyone fancies emailing them lol. ive reported it to pistonheads

Is the mileage and everything right... Sounds well dodgey and not just a case of they've used your pics because they couldn't be bothered to take there own

ive reported it to ph aswell mate had same thing done to me a few times really does my head in

It's more than likely a scam. PH is a place where scammers are rife unfortunately. They'll take a genuine car's pics from an ad elsewhere, tweak a few details (like lower the mileage) and try and sell it to some unsuspecting mug. Obviously they can't sell it as they don't physically have it, but that's where they try ans scam people. I don't know specifically how, but I think usually be getting people to send a deposit to 'hold' the car for them to come and view it.

This paragraph in the PH ads is the one that rings alarm bells......

I think you should email them then turn up in the actual car...

In fact, that's a silly idea. Just e-mail them and reverse-scam them like the people who scam the Nigerian scammers do...

I am with Duncan I am sure this is a scam as they have to get those pictures somewhere and looks like yours is one.

I would report it to the Police as well just to be safe as once I had my plate cloned from an advert and my "car" sprang up in London and ran up thousands in fines and charges, thankfully I had an incident number and an alibi (An Airport, a flight and my car parked in Glasgow) to back my innocence. better be safe than sorry IMHO

Yep, that'd be the other route they can go. They have a car with a dodgy history and want to sell it, so they find an ad elsewhere for one of the same model, colour etc. and clone it's plates.

Another reason to make sure that plates are blanked out when posted up, especiallly when posted up in an ad.
