Its gotta be 5w/30 or 5w/40 fully synthetic in that matey and do the oil change every 10k instead of every 20k, them engines like clean oil, My father in law has just bought an astra with that engine its only done 10k and its having its first service next week. Its something to do with the oil feed to the vvt unit that doesn't like dirty oil and it has been known to cause problems. Hope this helps.

    DaveW,

does it make any difference whether it's 30 or 40?
Would your choice depend on how much mileage it's covered?
Will be giving mine it's first change (under my ownership) soon and I want to make
sure the right oil goes in.

(apologies for the side question, not trying to hijack)

Autodata lists everything from 0w/30 or 0w/40 to 10w/40 for that engine. It doesnt really matter which you go for but I'd definately stick to 5w/30 or 5w/40 fully synthetic in that.

IMO , i think 5w40 Is slightly thicker at operating temperature than 5w30.
After comparing the two, i now use 5w30 because it gives me better mpg and i think VX recommends 5w30 on 2.2 engines

Vx reccomend 5w/30 on pretty much the whole range, On the VVT engine its best to stick to that really and change the oil and filter every 10k rather than the 20k Vx recommend.
