Or if you dont want to go into the BCM what about the number plate light. It comes on with the blipper.

Cheers, is there an easy way to remove the boot panels?

Open the load net loops on the boot catch panel. Pull from bottom and the panel will clip off. Push the 2 or 3 plastic rivets through and the boot wall against the BCM should just pull out.

Do you mean the BCM (Body Control Module), behind the glovebox, or do you mean the REC (Rear Electrical Centre) on the left side of the boot / load area?

All lighting signals originate from the BCM as follows.
Note the BCM has 78 pins set out in four rows...

pin 17 grey/yel = Instrument illumination, heater panel etc illumination

    pin 35 grey/yel = interior light

    pin 74 grey/yel = lighter ring illumination.

    Hope that helps

I've never looked at the pin outs for an REC unit, however there must be outputs for the rear door-switch illumination, the rear switch panels for the optional rear radio head unit etc.

Alternatively, what about a relay feed, controlled via the boot interior light circuit?
Would it freak the CAN system out if you took a feed from a tail light or the number plate light, say to a relay so as not to overload the side-light circuit.?

I know the pin outs for the BCM and the CIM, like the back of my hand, but this is no use in this situation

Both my numberplate lights were out and it didn't pop up any bulb warning so I don't think its in the circuit. Also I've noticed that my rear wiper stops mid stroke when I turn the ignition off so I think that runs traditional relay type wiring. Adding and extra rear fog light also doesn't pop up any bulb errors.

As above really, number plate lights are not monitored
