I would say yes you do , metal on metal will not create the " Perfect Seal "

If it's of any help, when I blanked off mine (Z22SE petrol engine) I bought a blanking plate and gasket from VX , the gasket was probably similar thickness to your 0.6mm ally one you've made, but the blanking plate was about 5mm or so in thickness, it might be worth if it's possible, to get the right ones from vx for yours, as my only thoughts are that even if you put a e.g paper gasket between your ally one you've made and the mating surface it may still not seal well due to the flexibility of your 0.6mm plate , if you see what I mean.
    Cheers Pete

I agree with OLD Cruiser. Whilst its fine to make your own, I think your chosen matierial is too thin. I would use 3mm. And yes defo use a gasket....

A coke can will make the perfect gasket As long as the mating surfaces are flush and of required thickness then you will be fine.

To check its air tight just spray carb or brake cleaner on the blanking plate while the engine is on tick over. If the revs alter while your spraying you have a leak.
